Our Story

THE PROBLEM

PLASTIC IS CHOKING OUR OCEANS

8 million tons of plastic enter our oceans every year - from rivers, storm drains and coastal areas. By the year 2050, it is estimated that there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. The material poses grave danger to marine life and in a short time span, has radically altered a fragile ecosystem that has been stable for millions of years. We now know how the health of the oceans is responsible for health on land, and if current trends are not reversed, plastics will threaten our very existence as a species.

THE SOLUTION

REDUCE, REFUSE, REUSE

We have spent years researching, analyzing and developing products from materials that are innovative improvements to single-use plastics. Knowing that the perfect solution isn’t here yet, we work with material scientists to provide the most viable material currently available and constantly search for improvements. We strive for perfection, and we welcome progress. We don't believe plastic recycling is the answer.

WHY NAECO EXISTS

BILL LEVEY - FOUNDER

A lifelong ocean enthusiast, diver and underwater photographer, and one of Fast Company's Most Creative People, Bill has been an ocean enthusiast since he was a kid. Witnessing increasing amounts of plastic on dives around the world, Bill decided to devote his life’s work to combating our plastic pollution problem and conserving our ocean. Combining passions for the ocean, community, storytelling, design and innovation, NAECO is built around the idea that we can reverse bad habits, reverse the damage and ensure a better future for our ocean.

YOUR SUPPORT

Your purchase of NAECO products helps support our mission to reverse damage to our ocean. We are 100% for the planet, and through our commitment as a 1% for the Planet member company we donate to ocean conservation organizations like Surfrider Foundation. We are very excited to now be planting a piece of coral for every purchase (with the option to plant more) together with our partner Coralive. We always prefer reusable to single-use and please remember - the best way to keep single-use plastics from getting in the ocean is to stop using them.

NAECO was founded in 2018 and is based in New York City. All of our products are designed in NYC.

We appreciate your support.
