WHY IS CORAL IMPORTANT?
Coral reefs are the lifeblood of our ocean. They provide a home to over 25% of all marine species, and a food source for more than 1 billion people. They also provide livelihood in tourism and protect our coasts from wave events. But they are in trouble. More than 50% of the world’s coral is dead or dying, and 90% are under threat.
To help reverse this, we plant 1 piece of coral for every bottle sold.
HOW DO WE DO IT?
Together with our partner Coralive, we are rebuilding reefs using advanced Mineral Accretion Technology. We use locally adapted corals that have survived bleaching events, which are more resilient and likely to survive.
This technology grows corals 3-5x faster, increases the coral’s resilience against the effects of climate change, and ensures survival rates of over 90% in the field.
We are currently operating in the Maldives, Seychelles, Philippines and Jamaica, and several new and large scale projects are in the pipeline. With your help, we plan to build and rebuild reefs worldwide.
The loss of our coral reefs is imminent, with over 50% dead or dying in just the last several years. Largely due to human impact, if we don't act now we will lose the opportunity to prevent irreversible consequences. Collectively and with your help, we can reverse this damage, one coral at a time.
Our goal is to plant 10 million pieces of coral over the next 10 years.
NAECO’s mission is to reverse damage to our ocean. Rather than focusing on negatives, we prefer to focus on the positives - on growth, optimism and progress. By planting coral, we can create positive, tangible impact in protecting our ocean. We can reverse damage to our ocean. (By the way, NAECO is the word OCEAN, reversed.)
Thank you for supporting this important mission.
